Reflection on Guy Kawasaki: MAKE MEANING

During our last meeting in our subject Technopreneurship2, we had a short video clip presentation of Gay Kawasaki’s “Make Meaning” in which in that short video clip presentation of him, he discussed the reason of make meaning in your company. The first thing that comes in my mind when our professor said that we will go to watch a short video clip of Gay Kawasaki’s “Make Meaning”, was that who is Gay Kawasaki? So as what have our professor said about Gay Kawasaki, he is the well known venture capitalist in the field of Technopreneurship, and as what I have researched about Gay Kawasaki, he is one of the founders and Managing Director of Garage Technology Ventures, a seed-stage and early-stage venture capital fund. But also in prior to helping an extraordinary entrepreneurs build their own companies, he also used to work as an Apple Fellow at Apple Computer, Inc. A noted speaker and founder of various personal computer companies, Guy is often credited as one of the individuals responsible for making Macintosh computers a success. When we say venture, it is a new business enterprise that involve risk, but could lead you into a profit. And capitalist, is an investor of money in business for a profit. So when we venture capitalist, he is the one who invest money into a business or a new business enterprise that involve a high risk, but offer the possibility of a large profits.

In his short video clip presentation, he talks about the real essence of entrepreneurship and also in Technopreneurship, which is basically about making a meaning. As most of us dreamed about starting to build up their own business, it is very important that we have to acquire the proper mindset of a technopreneur, and that includes having the right reasons for starting a dreamed company. As what I have remembered in his video, he says that “if you make meaning, you will probably making money. But if you set out of making money, you will probably not make meaning and you won’t make money”. In this line, I learned that in order have a company don’t set up your mind in making money but instead you make meaning of it. So much for that, here below are the learning’s and some inspirational words in relation to the field of Technopreneurship.

In creating or making a business, it is not just like making a money but the instead the essence of making meaning is very much important. I learned that in the art of making owned business, you must be interested in anything that you do. Just like in creating a business, the deep interest of yours must be carried out. The idea of putting up the interest in the business is the key to find ways in every struggle that may appear along the business. Great interest in a thing would help, much more when you give your love unto anything you do. I think so that was one of the reasons why many great people in the industry of technology got the place what they have right now just like Guy Kawasaki. I come to realized that when you give your love to a thing or anything that you do, you have the interest to work harder and harder on it. This could be a reason why you can solve the problems that may appear hard to others. It is one of the secret tools of the successful technoprenuer, to love and give their unfathomable interests in everything they do. Next is the idea ofavoiding deep interest on money. I noticed that some of the starts up businessman take they look first to earning money and how much they can earn when they engaged to a start up business – they were wrong unto that perspective. Maybe so many starts up businesses did not take long terms because they only look at the idea of earning a big money from it without thinking first if do they really contribute good quality to their customers. Like what Guy Kawasaki said in his presentation, when you think of earning money first then you will never succeed on anything you planned for. In short, everything will be useless. Guy Kawasaki emphasizes his message to the thought of making meaning; he said that in making a start up business in relation to technology, you must be capable of making meaning to a thing. Everything in the process of making business must undergo in creating and formulating meaning first unto it. Once said by Guy Kawasaki on his informative blogs that “when you focus on the money, you focus on the wrong thing”. This only means that you need and enable to make meaning first. You need to mean something to the world and to your prospect customers. I believe that you can only contribute to the goodness and revolution of the world when you are seriously and solemnly capable of manufacturing a meaning to a thing.

Along the short video speech of Guy Kawasaki, he reveals and stated up the three motivations or core of art of the start which are: increase the quality of life, right a wrong, and prevent the end of something good. He said that these three things can help for the start up businessman and also to the future technoprenuer especially to those who are interested in the side of Technoprenuership. The first core is to increase the quality of life. This core stressed the thought of providing the innovation of the life of people whom are going to use your provided products. Everything you do must be dedicated deeply to the goodness that may appeared on each of the person whom using your outcomes. The essence o this is to provide a high quality product to your customers as long as possible. And as a good technoprenuer, you are capable of providing a quality that is useful to the daily lives of the humankind. To sum it up, you need to accomplish a thing that is competent, efficient to use with. The second one is the concept of right a wrong. Here, it focuses on the act of making wrong things right. Guy accentuate that when you are going to do an innovated thing, you need to consider also the idea of making the existing wrong things unto right one. The responsibility says that in promoting new technologies to the society, there must be a helpful factor which enables give changes to the nation as well as in the daily routine of an individual. There must be a reason why everything is making impossible. You should not allow the increasing number of wrong things that already existed, instead make a move and do chances that could make those things right. And the last core is to prevent the end of something good. This idea focuses on the fact that when you found a thing that is good and need to be innovate and change more and more; so that’s the time you are allowed to avoid the end of it. It actually tells the possibility that when you are given a chance to change a thing and make it more innovated and useful ones, then do it and apply everything you knew that is applicable and useful too. Guy Kawasaki only stated and stressed out that in everything we do and anything we planned to and we think it as a very useful one then there no reason to end those things, so it’s the time to apply changes and make it enhanced more and more and is as useful as if a man can’t live without it.

All of those motivations or cores that were mentioned by one of the famous venture capitalist of the world are very useful when you are planning to engage in a thing of techno businesses. Though, there are more factors needed but somehow those cores are functional and helpful tools also to become a good technoprenuer someday. As I have researched through the internet, I’ve read an article in which it talks about the collections of the lessons learned from one of the famous venture capitalist which is Gay Kawasaki. So here are some of those lessons that have been stated in that article. First is to know what you want in your life to be about. In this line, I learned that you must know your want to be about and live your own word. Second is to be unique and be valuable. As what have Gay said, this is the key to effective marketing. The sweet spot is to be valuable to the market and be unique. Third is version it. You must think in terms of version. Each version should be a useful, relevant, and marked improvement. Fourth is to make it personal. You must personalize over generalized. Instead of talking about example shifts, make it real and make it relevant to the person. Fifth is to align your interest. I learned that you must line up with the people, ideas and the things you believe in. Sixth is it’s about the experience.[/b] Make the most of every experience and live life to the fullest. Seventh is to know the real influencers. Win over the front-lines and people in the trenches. They’re the ones that will ultimately be your raving fans and will do your word-of-mouth marketing for you. They will either be your resistance or your champions. And lastly is to be creative and productive. Being an Entrepreneur or being a technopreneur is all about creating something bigger than yourself. To be effective, you need to be productive.
